Beautiful day

It is 84 degrees in Kalispell, Montana today and gorgeous outside.  As I was leaving the church today I thanked God for the beautiful weather, and for the awesome building He provided for fresh life church.  It was used as a movie theatre for over 90 years, while rempdeling we found a newspaper dated 1918 stuffed inside the walls.  It is now serving a wholly and holy different purpose as it has become a place where people meet their maker.  Each week hundreds come here, not to be entertained, though the Bible is entertaining, but to study God's Word and to worship Him.  Children learn about Jesus and babies are taken care of while loving volunteers play and sing praise songs.  I love coming to church!  I always have.  Some of my earliest and best memories from my life have taken place at church buildings.  I love what David had to say in Psalm 122:1  "I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the Lord.”  You could loosely paraphrase that this way, "I'm super stoked to go to church!"  And although we are called to go in to the world, we should be excited to come back to church each week to be blessed and recharged together.

Good progress

I think I’m over due for an update on my leg. Last Tuesday I had my 8 week x-ray and the bone had begun healing. I was given permission to start putting a little weight (up to half) it was definitely difficult to know how much that was. I practiced standing on two scales to figure it out. Today I was cleared to start putting as much weight as I can handle and begin transitioning to one crutch or a cane until I build back my muscles enough to walk normally. I have lost 11 pounds and my leg is weak and skinny but I will be working to build it back up. I was told it takes a lot longer to gain strength than it does to lose it due to atrophy. I think that is true spiritually speaking as well. It is easy to let little things go and fall into sin, before you know it you have lost alot of ground. You dont have to do anything to let your soul wither, do nothing and it happens on its own. But training in righteousness is hard work, abiding takes effort and sanctification is a struggle. But it is definitely worth the effort to have a strong and healthy “inner man.”

Happy Birthday Israel

Today marks the 60th anniversary of the intensely dramatic rebirth of the state of Israel.  On May 14th, 1948 God brought His people, the Jews, back to the land He had promised to Abraham, Isaac and their descendants.  This “super sign” was predicted by the Bible and happened against all odds.  President Bush is in Israel for this special day.  Psalm 122:6 “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.”

Guerilla Gardening

I talked in my message on Sunday about a trend in crowded cities where green-thinking young people are “redeeming” soil by planting flowers and gardens illegally on public land, behind bus stops, in the middle of round abouts. Here is the wiki article on it. One fascinating aspect of it is the use of “seed bombs” which are clay, soil and seeds all squished into a little ping-pong sized ball. They lob these over fences and into places where they can’t go and garden. I couldn’t help see correlations to what the Bible says we are doing anytime we go out and preach the gospel.
Jesus said: Mark 4:3-8 “Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. And it happened, as he sowed, that some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds of the air came and devoured it. Some fell on stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away. And some seed fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no crop. But other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, increased and produced: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”
While I certainly like the thought of young people using their time, energy and resources to take pride in their city and do something that is beautiful, I am also spiritually inspired by it. What if we all realized that, like balls of dirt and seed, we can lob little truth bombs, full of the seeds of the gospel into hard to reach places and seek to shed light on the mystery of the gospel where ever we go? What if we got a group of friends together and went out street witnessing and sharing the gospel with people we have never met? What if we took every available opportunity to evangelize the lost? We would be living just like Jesus wants us to.
Here is a video demonstrating the phenomenon. Adidas put it together and is actively supporting the trend. (and I am sure they have just the shoe in mind for the guerrilla gardener on the go.) Try to plant some seeds wherever you go today! And remember that the results are up to God, we are just required to sow seeds and give people the opportunity to receive Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:6 I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow.

Joel Rosenberg on Glenn Beck

Author Joel Rosenberg, was on the Glenn Beck show at the end of April. I love reading his work and have read all his books. My dad produced and my brother directed the movie version of his book, Epicenter. Joel is a believer and a super smart guy. Check out this video clip from the interview, you can see the other parts here. His newest book, Dead Heat, just came out and is also great. It’s not often that you hear the Bible talked about like this on CNN.

Heroism at its finest

Our culture is fascinated by superheros. Batman, Spiderman, and of
course Wonder Woman and Superman. Indiana Jones is even making his
way back to the silver screen this summer. We love these characters
because they are larger than life. They are brave, selfless and they
sacrifice much for others. The problem is that they dont exist. If
you want to see a real hero you need not look any further than inside
your own home. She probably made you breakfast this morning. God has
his true wonder women in the form of moms. They meet the description
of a super hero and more. This Sunday being mothers day make sure to
find a creative way to tell the mothers in your life how much you
appreciate them. At fresh life we are going to be looking at the
story of a mom who risked everything and helped shape the life of one
of the greatest leaders the world has ever known.

clash of the claws

I mentioned a video in my teaching tonight that I saw a while back about several lions who aren’t having much luck in the fast food department. Here it is so you can see it for yourself in case you didn’t believe me!
