Happy Easter!

Our family hopes you feel the warmth and the power of Christ’s love and majesty on what is unquestionably the greatest day of the year–Resurrection Sunday. He is risen and we will rise!

John 5:28–29 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth— those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.

Today is my anniversary!

Today Jennie and I have been married for 7 years! I love that. It’s a whole week of years. Every year has gotten better and better as we have grown in Christ and learned how to better love each other. I can’t thank the Lord enough for the wife He has blessed me with. She is wonderful. I can’t wait until we have been married for 70 years. I am excited to become grandparents together and go to bed at 8pm and I hope I can still make her laugh as easily as I can today. I married a beautiful young girl that I wanted to grow old with. And that is exactly what I am going to do. With every heartbeat God gives me on this earth I am going to love Jesus, love Jennie, love my girls and preach the gospel. That’s my plan.

Happy anniversary Jennie, I love you!

Proverbs 31:10–11 Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies. Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life.

Daisy’s Dedication

This weekend we publicly dedicated our daughter Daisy Grace to the Lord, in front of our church family at freshlife. We recognize that she belongs to the Lord and is “on loan” to us, to steward and raise to know and fear the Lord. We desire to launch her out into the world to shine brightly and impact her generation for Christ.

Time Management

This weekend I preached a message all about time management. Time is the most valuable commodity in the world. You only have so much of it, and when it’s gone–it’s gone. We discussed how, in spite of it’s value, it is easily wasted (think farmville and the fact that the average american consumes 153 hours of tv per month) This is unacceptable. God wants us to redeem and invest our time wisely. Not that we can’t ever play video games or watch tv; but on our death bed we will definitely regret a life lived on the couch and off mission.

I believe that the mega, counter-cultural paradigm shift that is needed in our day, when it comes to time, is buffer. Margin. White space. Room to breathe. Selah. Sabbath.

Our world is frantic, in a constant hurry, always moving, always churning. And if we don’t choose to make a change and tune in God’s frequencies of peace, stillness and rest–we are not going to experience His best for our life. If we fail to give things room to breathe, whether in our budgets, our schedules or our relationships the only possible result is stress. And this is only going to become more and more important as technology, and progress continue to morph and speed up life, connectivity and the standard of “normal” in our culture.

I am indebted to the writings of Dr. Richard Swenson, whose work on this subject from a Christian perspective are the best I have read (by far!) His books: The Overload Syndrome, In Search of Balance, and Margin are all fantastic and helped me a ton in preparing this message. In the past, these books have opened my eyes to the lack of margin in my own life in different areas and has given Jennie and I many things to think through, repent from and shake up.

As we head into a new year I hope and pray this will inspire you to make the most of whatever time God gives you, for His glory and your fullest joy. After all, “Only one life and it will soon be past…Only what’s done for Christ will last! It won’t be easy, but you must pry some bandwidth from the mouth of some good things if you are going to have enough to give to the best things. There is only so much time to go around.

Merry Christmas!

Christ was, to quote Charles Wesley,“Born that man no more may die, Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give them second birth.” For that we have every reason to celebrate, worship and adore Jesus Christ. May this Christmas be off-the-charts special as you give Christ the attention, honor and glory that He is due. From our house to yours–Merry Christmas.

Early this morning, Jennie and I received a wonderful gift from the Lord and her name is Daisy Grace! Weighing in at 8 lbs 7 oz, she arrived at 4:41 this morning. She is healthy, awesome and, like her sisters, she waited until I was done preaching for the weekend to show up! Thank you in advance for your prayers, praising God for a safe arrival, for her and Jennie! Continue reading…

6 years today!

Six years ago today, on a Friday morning, I woke up single for the last time. I am so thankful for that–for many reasons. For one thing, I don’t know how much longer I could have survived on the nearly lethal combination of fast-food, Mountain Dew, Ramen noodles and pizza that I lived on as a bachelor.

And for another thing, I married the most rockin’ cool chick ever! These wonderful years with Jennie beside me have been an electrifying thrill. She is my love, my bride, my best friend and my partner in crime. She inspires me and makes me love Jesus more. Happy anniversary Jennie, I love you deeply!

Happy Birthday Jennie!

Proverbs 31:10 asks the question, “Who can find a virtuous and capable wife?”

I have!

And today is my virtuous and capable wife’s birthday. Whenever I read this last chapter of Proverbs that goes on to describe what a noble wife looks like I realize why I love Jennie so much–she is amazing! Proverbs 31 to a T. As vs. 29 says–“There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you (Jennie) surpass them all!” Not only is she beautiful, and she is certainly beautiful, but she understands that charm is deceitful and beauty is fleeting, and it is her fear of the Lord that I love about her the most.

We are in our sixth year of marriage and are having a blast loving and serving the Lord together through the adventures that have come our way. There is no one else I would rather have by my side. She is my best friend. I can’t wait to see what the Lord is going to do in and through her this next year.

Happy Birthday Jennie!
