By faith you can trust God for the power to get through what you’re going through. By faith you won’t just endure the pain, but you will get something powerful out of it.
That’s our testimony. That’s our report. In the darkest day of our life, when we went through something that we would have never even thought to be our worst nightmare, we chose to believe God & not just look at what was there, but hear what God was saying about it.
We didn’t lose heart; we were able to take heart. We were able to run toward the roar & do the impossible, because we endured seeing Him who is invisible and He gave us peace that passes understanding. He gave us strength in the midst of the battle of our lives. He gave us joy unspeakable. We had an anchor for our soul.

I am so excited to announce an Eyes of A Lion book tour coming this fall! Come to one of these events with a person in your life who has had to face a sad season or doesn’t know Jesus. We will talk about the anchor we have for our souls and how impossible pain can lead to incredible power! I believe every one of these stops will be supernatural and Heaven will touch earth.
The message at each event will be filled with hope for people who are hurting and an opportunity for lost to be found. It is also an opportunity to give Lenya’s life a chance to continue to impact people. I’ll talk about major themes from the book (and maybe you’ll even have a chance to hear from my wife Jennie and daughters Alivia, Daisy and Clover!) There will be music from our band featuring original songs written after Lenya went to heaven and media elements giving a personal glimpse into her life.
Stay tuned to www.eyesofalion.com for more details on each of our tour stops. Our family hopes to see you there!
Last month I preached a sermon series at Fresh Life based on four themes pulled from my book “Through the Eyes of a Lion.” (Check it out here!) I’m so excited to announce that we’ve packaged EVERYTHING we created to make this series happen and are giving it away for churches anywhere to use!
This series guide is intended to help people see that you can face impossible pain and find incredible power. It encompasses everything you need to have your own “Through the Eyes of a Lion” series at your church. It’s designed to be accompanied by the book which can be read and discussed in smaller groups or offered as an optional resource to those attending the series to read at their own pace.
Whether you have me come speak at your church for a month through the videos, or use my notes and preach it yourself, I am praying that many people will find hope and salvation through this campaign. This series is for anyone who is hurting – whether grieving, recently divorced, newly laid off, etc. It’s also for everyone else – because we all need to train for the trial we’re not yet in. It’s not a matter of “if,” but “when.”
To receive the guide, click here and submit your email. You’ll then be emailed a link to download the following:
-Video files of each teaching
-Word for word transcripts of each teaching
-My sermon notes for each teaching
-Social media images
-Kids ministry curriculum and craft ideas
-Image of the giveaways we gave to our church from each message and links to purchase them
-List and recipes for lion-themed drinks to serve at a cafe
-Videos played as part of worship
-Digital files to download for printing invites and social media e-vites
If you use this series at your church or in a small group, I’d love to hear from you and people in your church of how God uses it. Share your “Roar Stories” here and remember to use the hashtag #eyesofalion when posting on social media!
If you aren’t much of a reader and are wondering if I would sit next to you in your car and read “Through The Eyes of a Lion” to you, this is the next best thing. Instead of using a narrator or voice actor I did the reading for the audiobook personally. It was harder than I thought it would be (considering I speak all the time) but I am so happy I chose to do it and really think it came out well.
The most difficult part was sitting absolutely still. Even the rustling of clothing or my tongue hitting my teeth too hard would cause the producer or engineer to come in on my headphones and have me start the sentence over again. (I think I read the book 3x in totality.) There would also be the occasional jet that would fly overhead or semi truck rumbling by that would come in on the super sensitive recording equipment and cause us to have to stop. Did I mention that a fly got stuck in the recording booth with me one time and the buzzing was being recorded? Fortunately the engineer had ninja reflexes and literally caught it with his bare hands. It was a crazy three days in Nashville that’s for sure.
But the biggest thing that stood out to me as I read the book out loud was how much I believe in the message, that it will help people. And my heart was filled with how thankful I am for Lenya’s life and the way the Lord gave us strength in such weak moments. I can’t wait for you to hear it!
We are just a few short days away from the release of Through the Eyes of a Lion! Not just my first book…but one of the most special and difficult assignments God has ever given me. In a million years I never would have asked for it but have tried my best to live up to it and walk in the grace that is sufficient for the weakness. As this book goes out I pray for eyes to be opened and hands to be strengthened. For people to be empowered in their pain as they run with legs that tremble.
In the month of August I will be preaching a four week sermon series based on the book at Fresh Life and it kicked off this weekend! At the end of the month we will be giving away the entire series (my message notes, transcripts, graphics package, small group videos and bumper vids) for any church or group that wants to use them to do a Through the Eyes of a Lion series or weekend. Whether you want to preach or play the videos of me preaching, you will have access to everything we are doing for the series for free. I hope many will join in this, maybe by going through the book in their community groups or doing the series so that hurting people’s lives will turn into ROAR stories! You can still pre-order your copy or promote the book here.
My prayer for those that read my book is that they see that God made them for a purpose. “Through the Eyes of a Lion” will hopefully hit home for those that have suffered any kind of loss – marriage, loved one, job, etc., but I want everyone who reads it to see the wild and wonderful calling on their lives. We each have a microphone in our hands, a platform we’ve been given.
How we rock that mic is up to us. I’m excited to announce the opportunity to use your personal platform to help me spread the message of this book to your sphere of influence. How? By being part of the “Through the Eyes of a Lion” street team. If you’re passionate about the message of the book, this is for you.
The street team will have a limited amount of spots – only 200, and there’s an application process. Those that get a spot on the team will receive exclusive insider content, early info and other bonus material I can’t even talk about yet! If you’re interested, you can apply here and will receive an email within two weeks if you’re chosen to fill one of those 200 spots. The deadline to apply is June 15th and you can email firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
p.s. – If you haven’t pre-ordered the book yet you can do that here!
Last fall, on what would have been Lenya’s seventh birthday, I shared with you that I’d written a book in her honor, called “Through the Eyes of a Lion.” Though I believe it will definitely help hurting hearts, regardless of what pain they have experienced, I didn’t set out to write a manual for grieving but a manifesto for a brand new kind of Holy Ghost powered, high-octane living. Through it I want you to see that God made you for a purpose. There is a wild and wonderful calling on your life, a microphone in your hands. Jesus wants you to look at the adventure of your life through His eyes, the eyes of a Lion.
I’m super excited to announce the “Through the Eyes of a Lion” preorder page is officially up on this shiny, brand new site and we have some limited-edition swag for those who have already preordered or do so this week! My buddy and super-talented tattoo artist Sid Stankovits designed a beautiful, hand-painted piece of flash art, incorporating themes from the book that can be used as mobile wallpaper, turned into a print, or whatever else you can think of doing with it. The deadline to participate is May 27th! Follow instructions listed here to redeem your custom artwork once you preorder the book.
On Lenya Lion’s birthday back in September I shared the news that I had written a book in her honor. Last week I had the opportunity to travel to the Thomas Nelson headquarters and officially announce the title and share the heart behind it at the company’s national sales gathering.
The book is called Through the Eyes of a Lion. It is about how seeing life through the lens of faith will allow you to see the wild calling that is on your life and enable you to go through things that would be otherwise impossible. The book will definitely be helpful for hurting people but I didn’t write it to be a manual for grieving, but as a manifesto for a whole new high-octane way of living. It’s not a book about death, it’s about life.
It has been tremendously exciting for me to work on this project for the last year and while it has been one of the most difficult things I have ever done, it has been thrilling at the same time. I am really excited for this message to be set free. It gives me great joy to think of God continuing to use my daughter’s life and story to bless people.
Right now I am in the midst of the editing phase. The manuscript is being bounced back and forth between me and two different editors and being fine-tuned and tweaked along the way. I thought I would have a hard time with the editing process…but it has actually opened my eyes to see weaknesses I didn’t know were there and I am so happy with how much better the material is for it–even though a few paragraphs I worked really hard on have hit the cutting room floor grrrr! Something I have been keeping in mind along the way is that the process is the product.
The book is set to release on Tuesday, August 4th and I will be updating you as the process continues to move forward.
Happy October everybody! I have been thinking of this date, October 1st, for a long, long time. In addition to it being the first date of the NW Skull Church tour it is also the due date for the manuscript of my book Thomas Nelson. I have writer friends who have told me you can always get an extension but I really wanted to get it in on time. And I did! We clicked send together all as a family and sent my final draft off to Thomas Nelson! It really was exciting and a special moment for us as a family. The journey has been difficult and God has been faithful. I really believe in this project and I can’t wait to see God use it as it goes out far and wide.
Being in Spokane is also extra special as we have come to this city many, many times together as a family. Lenya’s allergist was here and when she was really young and had health problems we came here for her to see nutrition specialists. We are believing God is going to do big things through this Skull Church tour. If you can’t make it to Spokane, you can join us on the webcast 7pm pacific at skullchurch.com. Blessings!
